Lincoln Junior High
Friends -- I know you receive these
requests often, but give this one a look over and see if it matches your area/s
of interest. Also -- please share this with others who might have interest. My
email list is incomplete.
Lincoln Junior High wants sixteen students to have the opportunity of a lifetime
incorporating learning across all disciplines as they tour Spain during Spring
Break 2009. The cost for each student is $2000 and each student is responsible
for raising his/her individual amount. As a group, they are hosting fundraisers;
as individuals they are being most creative. And, as the note below explains,
about half of the students are truly needy. I was most impressed as I visited
with Kathy Hix, assistant principal and coordinator of the trip, by the way
students are working together to help one another; and, I liked what Kathy
explained about the educational parts of the tour.
That’s why I agreed to see if any of my artist friends might like to donate an
artwork for a silent auction to be held at Lincoln Junior High on May 22 from 5
to 7. It’s their annual showcase of student music groups featuring a BBQ for
parents, students, staff, and friends. If you have something you would like to
donate, I will be happy to pick it up or
you can drop it off at Hixon Interiors, 226 W. Magnolia. Kathy asks that you
indicate the value and the opening bid. We are looking for all types of work
sculpture, ceramic, painting, jewelry . . .) as the audience is quite diverse
both economically and culturally.
Let me know if you would like to contribute a piece or if you have questions.

You can contact me via email most easily – cannhixon@comcast.net Telephone –

IMPORTANT VOTE IN CONGRESS ABOUT YOUR RIGHTS!!!
I don't know if people are aware, but there
is a new bill coming up for legislation that would effectively deny us our
copyright on our artwork. Under this new bill, the Orphan Works Bill, companies
can use any art on their products they like without paying the artists for it
unless they get caught. If they do get caught, they only have to pay a token
fee, rather than damages. So art could be lifted off your website and used
without your knowledge. It doesn't matter if you sign it or register the
copyright to it. It is the same as a shoplifter stealing from a store and only
have to pay the price of the item if they get caught. Your rights to your art
are in real danger.
If everyone could please fax or e-mail our representatives it would really help.
Our reps are:
Senate: Ken Salazar fax #202-228-5036
Wayne Allard fax# 202-224-6471
Congress: Marilyn Musgrave fax # 202-225-5870

Artist Demonstration:
"Intro to Mixed Media"
Cory Celaya from Arizona
Thursday March 13, 2008 at 6:30 pm at The Artists' Nook 402 N. College Ave Fort
Collins (970) 416-1148
For Arizona artist Cory Celaya, Art with Moxie are words she
lives by when creating her works of art. Cory paints in all mediums, mixed media
being her current choice. “Never say, Never.” says Cory. “When I first started
using photo images in my work, I felt as if I wasn’t creating “real art”. The
words of one of my mentors came to me as if pointing his finger…"you must always
draw from real life, NEVER, use a photo."
Well, 300 drawings later, Cory began using her own photo images, telling herself
that if she took the picture, it makes it o.k. to use. After using over 130
photos, Cory discovered the art of Robert Rauschenberg. He used images from
magazines and newspapers, plus found objects to create his art pieces. Now, Cory
uses images from magazines and text from newspapers. By doing so, she felt free!
The images are hidden beyond recognition, yet the layers of paint and papers
allowed some parts of the images to peek through demanding attention. “I am
happy that “Bob” gave me permission to express myself.”
Cory gets bags of “stuff” that normal people would toss in the trash. Images
from magazines, newspapers, printed text, numbers, letters, bills, receipts,
sheet music, wallpaper, envelopes, junk mail, catalogs, tickets, menus,
announcements, invitations, documents, are all fair game when it comes to art!
“All this stuff makes me happy and happy is what “moxie art” is made of. Yes, be
mindful of copyrights, if you plan to show, sell, teach, or publish, but…if you
crave the rush of creating for yourself, go for it, and learn to love what you
do.” Cory says.
Cory teaches nationally and internationally for 25 years, offering classes in
watercolor, mixed media collage, encaustics, faux resin techniques for art
objects, jewelry, and much more.
She is passionate about teaching and about creating art, whether a large
painting or a small piece of art to wear or display.
Cory will be giving a Free Demonstration “Intro to Mixed Media Painting”
Thursday March 13th 6:30 pm at The Artists’ Nook 402 N. College Ave Fort
Collins. She will be teaching workshops Friday April 27-29th. For more details

LOVELAND
ART ACADEMY
Hello,
My name is Lynn Wrigley and I'm the director of the Loveland Art Academy.
I began the Academy after the"old" Academy shut it's doors in 2005. My mission,
with the Academy, is to offer high quality, professional fine art instruction
through workshops and classes. I also offer a drop-in, life
drawing session on Saturday mornings from 9am-12 noon. The Saturday
morning session is very well attended by professionals and students and has
become a gathering of people with the passion for art.
I don't want to be another bothersome email in your inbox, unless, of course,
you would like to receive my weekly email broadcasts. If so, please reply to
this and I'll add your address. The weekly email let's everyone know of
newly scheduled workshops and classes before they get posted to the website.
Felipe Echevarria has given me permission to use your email address to introduce
the Academy....but don't shoot the essenger. Felipe is one of the good guys,
don't you know !
Please visit the Academy's website *www.lovelandartacademy.org*
If you have any questions, please contact me:(970) 663-1915 or
